...have been exploring the way
we affect the spaces around us.

Kin have been engaging in a couple of projects recently that examine the way we influence or affect our surroundings. Along the way we've made a few discoveries that haven't made it into the final projects but have revealed some interesting behaviours. So we thought we'd post them here.

The first, is a mirror. We've always been interested in the way mirrors work as interactives. Since Myron Kueger's pioneering work in the 70's they've produced some incredibly engaging interactive experiences. There's something interesting in the concept that we are excused from notions of self-obsession and a narcissistic act can be seen as a playful act. We love the way we used to catch a backward reflection of ourselves as we walked past the video cameras and displays in Dixon's window, and were allowed to walk back and fore once, or twice, but three times was a bit excessive or self obsessed. However, we've never been comfortable with simple reflections, and are always looking for the story in an experience. So, recently we've been playing with the idea that you can leave evidence of your presence, that there is a trace, or a further 'thing' which is created as a result of an interaction.

There are two examples above, where pixels are released which attract to each other swarm to create further life as a result of our presence.

More to follow...
